Letter, 1779 February 10, to Battaile Muse.

Nelson requests Muse's aid in locating suitable housing for a move to Frederick. Describes in detail how he wants the new house built. Specifies dimensions and different materials to use in construction of main house, outbuildings, and slave dwellings. Names slaves whom he intends to bring along. Gives instruction for hiring of workmen and conditions of employment. Discusses which horses and supplies are needed and when they should arrive in order to facilitate the move. Mentions plans for using the plantation at Frederick.

Nathaniel Burwell (1750-1814) was the son of Carter and Lucy Grymes Burwell. He attended the College of William and Mary between 1759 and 1772. He married twice, first to Susannah Grymes and after her death to Lucy Page Baylor. Both unions produced eight children. Burwell lived at Carter's Grove until his second marriage, at that time, he moved to Clark County, Va., where he erected Carter's Hill.
